You’re on your way to beautiful San Diego, America's Finest City! You’ve reviewed the exciting workshops, speakers and schedules for International Convention 2009. All that's left is deciding just when to arrive and how to fill your free time! Your California sisters have arranged many exciting activities from which to choose. Many opportunities are unique and available only to our very special guests—sisters and their BILs from everywhere! With the exception of BIL Golf Day, ALL tours are open to guests and BILs. Delegates, we look forward to seeing you on the tours as your duties permit!

  • 1 — SAN DIEGO OVERVIEW FROM OLD TOWN TROLLEY

    This two-hour non-stop narrated tour of San Diego via open trolley is the ideal way to familiarize yourself with San Diego and all it has to offer. Tours depart and return to the Marriott (next to the Convention Center). Along the route you will see San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, the fabulous Hotel del Coronado, the world famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park's El Prado & museums, Old Town Historic Park, the San Diego Harbor, Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, Seaport Village and more. Pick the time that's right for you!

    Tuesday, September 8, 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Wednesday, September 9, 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. $28 per person. Space is limited, first come first served. Please indicate preferred (P) and Alternate (A) time.

  • 2 — TOUR SAN DIEGO AT YOUR LEISURE

    The Old Town Trolley provides transportation around San Diego at your leisure! See the same great sights as listed above, but hop on and off on your whim to visit the Zoo, have lunch at the Hotel Del or explore Old Town. Old Town Trolleys run the route at 30 minute intervals from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Enjoy!

  • 3 — AIRCRAFT CARRIER MUSEUM

    The USS Midway, whose long and distinguished career began in 1945 and continued through Desert Storm, is now a museum conveniently located along the harbor in downtown San Diego. Guests may tour any day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a selfguided audio tour is available with each admission ticket. Many areas of the Midway experience are wheelchair accessible, and a virtual tour is available for those areas that are not wheelchair accessible. You can even have lunch in the Fantail Café on board!

    Purchase your ticket for $17 and tour any day of your stay. The Midway suggests you allow four hours for the complete tour.

  • 4 — TEMECULA WINE TOUR AND LUNCH

    Get away from the city and into the beautiful San Diego countryside! Guests will depart the Convention Center in a luxury coach for the one hour drive north inland to the beautiful Temecula Valley Wine Country, San Diego County's premier wine growing area. The tour includes tastings at three unique area wineries (tickets included), and a catered sit-down lunch. This tour is offered only once during the convention, so sign up early!

  • 5 — TOUR OF HOTEL DEL CORONADO, BEACH, SHOPPING

    This tour, led by a guide from the Coronado Visitor Center, includes a guided tour of the historic Hotel del Coronado in beautiful Coronado. Following lunch on your own, you'll have ample time to stroll the beautiful beaches of Coronado, consistently voted among the top beaches in the U.S. If shopping is your passion, enjoy browsing the exclusive shops in the Hotel Del or along beautiful Orange Avenue, the heart of Coronado.

  • 6 — CROWN CITY TEA PARLOUR LUNCHEON

    This high tea luncheon on beautiful Coronado Island is a perfect opportunity to begin your convention experience. Held in the charming Crown City Antiques & Tea Parlour, the menu includes the chef's choice of soup, assorted finger sandwiches (chicken salad, cucumber dill, egg salad, pear with cream cheese & walnuts), warm brie stuffed in puff pastry and sun-dried tomato savory on baguette, fresh scones, assorted seasonal fruits, four different desserts and tea. Other beverages are available for a nominal additional fee. Forty guests can be accommodated on this delightful tour.

  • 7 — MY SISTER'S HOUSE

    Many of our Southern California sisters have beautiful homes they would love to share with you, our honored convention guests. And it's always fun to see others' lifestyles, isn't it? Hop aboard the luxury bus for a scenic view of San Diego and see how some of your SoCal sisters live! (No food or drink inside homes, please.)

    Tuesday, September 8, 1 p.m.; Wednesday, September 9, 1:30 p.m.; Friday, September 11, 9:30 a.m. Tours will visit 3-4 homes and will last approximately 3.5 hours. $40 per person.

  • 8 — HARBOR CRUISE

    These twohour narrated scenic cruises of San Diego Bay include views of the submarine base, North Island Naval Air Station, Cabrillo National Monument and Point Loma Lighthouse, the Midway Aircraft Carrier, The Coronado Bay Bridge, the Navy SEALS Training Base, the Star of India (the world's oldest sailing ship), and the Hotel Del Coronado. San Diego's weather in September should help make this a perfect sailing experience.

  • 9 — HOT AIR BALLOONS

    Up, up and away over breathtaking coastal San Diego County! You will be picked up at the Convention Center for transportation to the launch site, determined by the weather conditions of the day. During your flight you'll see the beautiful Del Mar coastal area and beaches, the historic Del Mar Racetrack and the magnificent estates of Rancho Santa Fe. Actual flight time is approximately 45 minutes. Once back on terra firma, you'll enjoy champagne and light snacks before returning to the Convention Center. Ooh-La-La! Fifty guests can be accommodated on each tour offering.

  • 10 — DINNER CRUISE

    Welcome aboard! You'll be greeted with complimentary champagne as you enjoy spectacular night views of San Diego and enjoy a sit-down dinner of beef and chicken, vegetables, salad, assorted bread and dessert. A vegetarian option is available. All drinks are a la carte. Dance under the stars, or just watch the scenery glide by. Handicapped accessible. This cruise is approximately three hours. Transportation to boarding and return to convention center is included.

    Tuesday, September 8, and Thursday, September 10, depart convention center at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. boarding and 7 p.m. sailing. Return to convention center approximately 10 p.m. $85 per person.

  • 11 — HAUNTED SAN DIEGO

    Experience the beauty and excitement of "America's Finest City" after dark on this most unusual tour! Step aboard the Ghost Coach and rest in peace on a city-wide storytelling adventure that's sure to delight. Disembark, if you dare, for up-close and personal visits to historic and documented haunted locations. Along the way you'll hear true tales from San Diego's past and present. This tour includes a visit to "America's Most Haunted Location." Bus accommodates 14 and guests must be in good physical condition.

  • 12 — DEEP SEA FISHING, ¾ Day Trip

    San Diego boasts the largest party boat/ charter boat fleet in the United States. The fleet provides saltwater fishing trips that range from ½ day to 18 days and offer a unique opportunity to experience the Southern California live bait fishing style. Commonly caught inshore species include California halibut, lingcod, kelp bass, California barracuda, Pacific bonito, sculpin, California sheephead, bocaccio, and yellowtail. Offshore species include albacore, yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, stripped marlin and maco sharks. Fishing gear, license, breakfast (bacon and eggs or breakfast burrito) and lunch (burgers) are included. Drinks are available at the angler's expense. The captain will call ship to shore for a processer to meet the boat where anglers can arrange to have their catch smoked and/or frozen and shipped to the angler's home for a fee.

  • 13 — WILD ANIMAL PARK

    Hop on a comfortable bus for the 30 minute ride north to the world-class 1,800 acre Wild Animal Park, home to over 3,500 animals representing 260 species and one of San Diego's most visited attractions. Your tour includes general admission, the Journey into Africa tram tour, all public animal shows and exhibits, and lunch served at Samburu Terrace following the tram tour. There will be ample time for you to explore various exhibits or view shows on your own before boarding the bus to return to the Convention Center.

  • 14 — VIP SEA WORLD

    Go behind the scenes at Sea World and enjoy a private one-hour tour to two or three exclusive areas not open to the general public. You'll learn about Sea World's rescue and rehabilitation program, conservation efforts, how animals are trained, etc. This tour includes general admission and guests are free to explore Sea World's shows, exhibits and attractions at their leisure. Transportation will be provided to return to the Convention Center at 2:30 p.m., but feel free to stay and enjoy on your own. (Taxis from Sea World to the Convention Center are approximately $22 at 2008 prices.)

  • 15 — VIP SAN DIEGO ZOO A

    Don't miss an opportunity to visit the world famous San Diego Zoo! Located in beautiful Balboa Park, it is one of the largest, most progressive zoos in the world and home to 4,000 animals of more than 800 species. The 100 acres of parkland also contain beautiful and rare plants, trees and flowers, making it a botanical garden as well as a zoo. Your special two-hour tour includes a private guided bus tour to two animal exhibit areas not available to the general public. Lunch following the private bus tour is included. All day zoo admission and unlimited access to the Skyfari Aerial Tram, Express Bus and all public animal shows and exhibits are also included.

  • 16 — SURF DIVA & BEACH PICNIC

    Everybody can be a California Girl with our Surf Diva and Beach Picnic tour! Nothing says Southern California like surfing, and a local San Diego company that specializes in teaching girls and women to surf will calm all your concerns—no experience required! Your Surf Diva tour includes transportation to and from the Convention Center, surfboard/soft board usage, wetsuit usage, rashguard usage, a lecture on the beach, surfing "pop up" demonstration on beach, and surfing skills instruction in the water. You'll also receive a Surf Diva Certificate and frame, a Surf Diva T-shirt and sticker, and enjoy a catered upscale picnic lunch on the beach. Swimmers only, please.

  • 17 — NATURAL HISTORY OF SAN DIEGO

    San Diego's rich history will be brought to life by Christopher Plouff, a docent at the San Diego Natural History Museum, whose sister is a Sister! This luxury coach tour of approximately 3-4 hours will take guests from the Convention Center to the Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma, the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala (California's first mission, founded in 1769), and beautiful Balboa Park for an overview and history of this historic mid-city park. You will return to the Convention Center.

  • 18 — VIP WILD ANIMAL PARK

    This tour to the 1,800 acre Wild Animal Park offers a 1-3/4 hour exclusive safari (ideal for photographs!) inside the East Africa and Asian Plains enclosures in an open-air truck with bench seating. Park admission, lunch at Samburu Terrace and all public animal shows and exhibits are also included. To ensure a safe experience, children under eight years of age are not permitted on caravan trucks. Guests can enjoy the park at their leisure following this special VIP safari.

  • 19 — BIL GOLF DAY AT THE CORONADO MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE

    The Coronado Municipal Golf Course, a Jack Daray design, opened in December of 1957. The course is 6,590 yards from the blue tees and has a course rating of 71.5 and a slope rating of 120 for men. The course has four holes along beautiful Glorietta Bay on Coronado Island. The 16th hole is considered one of the most beautiful holes in San Diego County. Recently the San Diego Union-Tribune gave it a 10 out of 10 rating. Transportation, green fees, cart and either a box lunch or two drink tickets are included. Clubs (maximum of 80 sets) available for rent at the course.

  • 20 — SEAL TOUR: SAN DIEGO BY SEA AND LAND IN ONE VEHICLE!

    Up to 44 guests can enjoy this unusual way to tour San Diego—on a vehicle that is both a bus and a boat! This 1.5 hour tour takes guests through a narrated tour of picturesque city streets before splashing down for a cruise through the waters of San Diego Bay, where San Diego's rich military history is highlighted.

  • 21 — BIRCH AQUARIUM, LA JOLLA SHOPPING, BROWSING, BEACH

    This tour has something for everyone! Birch Aquarium at Scripps, located on a bluff overlooking the Pacific, brings to life the exciting discoveries of worldrenowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Enter the world of sharks, seahorses, living coral reefs and more, and discover a stunning variety of Pacific marine life in more than 60 habitats. Your special tour begins with an hour-long docent-led tour, where highlights will be noted and questions answered. You'll then have an hour on your own to explore. Following two hours at the aquarium, your bus will take you to downtown La Jolla, "the jewel," for an additional two hours to enjoy lunch on your own, shopping, visiting the beach or cove or whatever strikes your fancy!

  • 22 — OCEAN KAYAK WITH BEACH PICNIC

    This approximately two-hour kayak tour off the coast of La Jolla through the La Jolla Ecological Preserve offers amazing views and abundant wildlife. Two experienced tour guides will lead you on this fabulous open water adventure. No experience is necessary! Bus transportation to La Jolla Shores will allow time for brief instruction followed by a kayak tour of approximately two hours, and it isn't unusual to see seals, sea lions and dolphins. After kayaking, you'll be ready for lunch on the beach at La Jolla Shores! All gear and picnic lunch included. Snorkeling is also available if conditions are favorable. Shorts and tops or swimsuits recommended.

  • 23 — TOUR OF PETCO PARK

    You haven't seen PETCO Park, the home of the San Diego Padres, until you've gone behind the scenes! Discover "writer's row" in the press box, learn about the historic Western Metal Supply Co. Building and explore the Padres dugout. The crown jewel of downtown San Diego, PETCO Park serves up baseball SouthernCalifornia style—complete with swaying palm trees and a sandy beach beyond center field. This tour requires walking and navigating stairs and ramps.

  • 24 — SAN DIEGO ZOO PICNIC AND NIGHT PROWL

    Following a picnic dinner at the Treetops Restaurant in the heart of the world-famous San Diego Zoo, guests will embark on a guided one-hour trek around the zoo, which combines an evening of theater with nature and animal viewing. Along the way, guests are surprised by actors who put a new twist on zoo tours. Dress is casual, and guests are encouraged to wear walking shoes. Transportation, picnic dinner and zoo admission included.

  • 25 — LA JOLLA PLAYHOUSE TOUR, PRE-THEATER DINNER AND THEATER

    The remarkable La Jolla Playhouse has premiered a show and sent it on to Broadway 16 times in the past 25 years. Start your special evening with a guided tour of the La Jolla Playhouse followed by dinner in the adjoining restaurant, Jai by Wolfgang Puck, where rich Asian tradition is fused with contemporary culinary trends. Enjoy an evening of world-class theater (show schedule will not be available until mid-2009). Transportation to and from La Jolla is included.

  • 26 — DINNER IN BALBOA PARK AND SHAKESPEARE AT THE OLD GLOBE

    The internationally acclaimed, Tony® Award-winning Old Globe is one of the most renowned regional theatres in the country and has stood as San Diego's flagship arts institution for over 70 years. The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 15 plays and musicals on its three stages, including its highlyregarded Shakespeare festival. Join us at the outdoor Festival stage for Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at 8:00 p.m., preceded by dinner in the nearby Prado Restaurant.

  • 27 — MCRD GRADUATION CEREMONY & MARINE MUSEUM TOUR

    San Diego is proud of its rich military history, and the U.S. Marines have invited our guests to share in that history. The Marine Corps Recruiting Depot (MCRD), the first stop for many of the nation's new recruits, will allow guests to witness the flag-raising ceremony at MCRD from 8 a.m. to 8:20 a.m., enjoy a docentled tour of the Marine Museum from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and attend the graduation ceremony for Marines from 10 a.m. to approximately 11:30 a.m. Sun protection and comfortable shoes are recommended.

    Friday, September 11, 7:15 a.m. departure. $25 per person.

  • 28 — VIP SAN DIEGO ZOO B

    The same tour offerings available in Tour 15, but designed for those who might require a little less time at the zoo. Lunch will be first on this tour, followed by a private two-hour guided bus tour to two animal exhibit areas that are not accessible to the general public. Zoo admission and unlimited access to the Skyfari Aerial Tram, Express Bus and all public animal shows and exhibits are included.

  • 29 — I LOVE L.A.

    J. Paul Getty Center, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Universal Studios— 1 night, 2 days Day 1—Saturday, September 12 9:30 a.m., depart San Diego via deluxe motor coach for the Los Angeles area. Noon, arrive at the beautiful Getty Center for a visit of approximately four hours. Admission is free. Lunch on your own at the Getty Center. 2 p.m. Docent tour available 4 p.m. depart for Woodland Hills Marriott 5 p.m. check-in 7 p.m. dinner at hotel with choice of entree. All dinners will be accompanied with salad, and include chef's selection of vegetables, with assorted fresh bread, dessert, coffee and tea service. Tax and tip are included. Day 2—Sunday, September 13 Complimentary Continental Breakfast at hotel. Check-out at 8 a.m. and depart for "I Love L.A. Tour," a lectured sightseeing tour of Los Angeles, Hollywood and Beverly Hills, featuring Sunset Blvd., Melrose Ave. and Beverly Hills. See famed Rodeo Drive, the Wilshire Mile, and Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Continue to Universal Studios Hollywood, where admission is included to the world's biggest film and television studio. Enjoy the guided tram ride which features exciting special effects and brings you face to face with famous movie thrills and attractions. You will have time to enjoy the live shows. Lunch is optional. Depart for San Diego at 4 p.m. with an estimated arrival time of 6:30 p.m.

  • 30 — WEEKEND AND GOLF AT THE LODGE AT TORREY PINES

    You can play where Tiger played and stay where Tiger stayed! Golf at the world famous Torrey Pines Golf Course and stay at the luxurious Lodge at Torrey Pines, located adjacent to the 18th hole. Depart the Convention Center at noon on Saturday, September 12 for this unique post-convention package. Included are lodging for two for two nights, two full breakfasts, and two (total) rounds of golf, and guaranteed tee times. A variety of spa treatments are available at The Spa at Torrey Pines and can be reserved separately. The breathtaking Torrey Pines State Reserve is within walking distance or a short drive from the lodge. The reserve is one of San Diego's most beloved natural attractions and offers miles of trails for nature walks through forests of rare Torrey Pines and unique sandstone formations as well as broad and beautiful views of the Pacific beaches and coastline. The Lodge offers two guided hikes daily. Chauffeured luxury sedans are available by appointment and based on availability for complimentary drop-off and pick-up within a five-mile radius, which includes the greater La Jolla area.

    Garden view room, $1,895; Golf course view room, $2,350 per room for two nights, two rounds of golf included. Transportation for departure from San Diego is available but not included.

  • 31 — WEEKEND IN CATALINA

    2 nights, 3 days Day 1—Saturday, September 12 9 a.m., Depart San Diego by motor coach to Dana Point to catch the ferry to Catalina, where you will stay at the Glenmore Plaza. Luggage will be transferred to your hotel. Lunch is included at the El Galleon Restaurant. Tour of the casino in the afternoon, dinner on your own. Day 2—Sunday, September 13 Complimentary continental breakfast at the hotel. 9 a.m., depart on a four-hour guided tour of the interior of Catalina Island. You'll travel in a comfortable 50's-style flexible bus, restored to its original streamlined beauty. Highlights of the tour include the Middle Ranch Native Plant Nursery, Catalina Island Fox Habitat, Windward Shoreline at Shark Harbor, Wrigley Arabian Horse Ranch, El Rancho Escondido, the Airport in the Sky and the Conservancy Nature Center. Lunch on your own. 3 p.m. Glass Bottom Boat Trip, approximately 40 minutes (included). 6:30 p.m., Dinner at Armstrong's Fish Market and Seafood Restaurant (included).     1 night, 2 days Day 1—Saturday, September 12 9:30 a.m. Depart San Diego via deluxe motor coach for the Los Angeles area. Noon — Arrive at the Getty Center for a 4 hour visit. Admission is free. Lunch on your own 2 p.m. Docent Tour 4 p.m. proceed to the Woodland Hills Marriott for check-in. 7 p.m. Dinner at the hotel with choice of entrees. All dinners will be accompanied with salad, and include chef's selection of vegetables, with assorted fresh bread, dessert, coffee and tea service. Tax and tip are included.     Explore the world famous San Diego Zoo on your own before dinner at Treetops Restaurant at 6 p.m., where guests will have the opportunity to experience a close encounter with an exotic animal and visit one-on-one with the trainer. Zoo admission and dinner are included, drinks a la carte.

  • 34 — PADRES GAME AND PREGAME PICNIC AT PETCO PARK

    Let's go out to the ball game! Enjoy a pre-game ballpark buffet and a game with your sisters and BILs! Watch the fun as the San Diego Padres play against the Colorado Rockies. PETCO Park is spectacular in every way, combining the best sight lines in baseball with breathtaking views of San Diego.
